The Volunteers

The success of Sani is in no small part due to the continual support we have received from the international community, as well as from here in Ecuador. We continue to receive volunteers, biologists, office help, English teachers... to which we will always be thankfull!!!

ELINA KAARTINEN – Age: 24, Biologist from Finland

Elina studied for a master´s degree in the University of Helsinki, writing her thesis on the global decline of ampihibian populations. After finishing her studies ecology, she came almost directly to Ecuador to work as a naturalist guide in Sani Lodge. Elina´s special interest as a biologist is conservation biology, especially in South America.

 

IRENE GARCIA – Age: 29, Enviromental Studies, from Spain

Irene is specialized in Ecosystem restoration at Staffordshire University in England. Her interests go towards ecological research, for the better sustainability of the natural resourses, specially on the protected areas. This includes social development and enviroment protection (Enviroment Education). She has been a guide in Costa Rica and also water inspector in Spain.

 

 

MATIAS LETURIA - Age: 24, Forest Engineering, from Chile

Matias recently graduated from university, his studies and work experience has been relationated with ecotourism and forest. The project that he is working on is waste and water treatment, not only at the lodge but also with the Sani Isla Community.
He started with the waste that the lodge produces, first reducing it, then reusing some materials and finally recycling. Paper recycling and soap making (from used oil of the kitchen) are some activities that he does with the kichwa community.

TOMMY NEWBREY – Age: 26, Scientist of Sight and Sound from Kansas

tommy newbreyTommy came to Ecuador as a multi media design volunteer. Some of his work includes re-designing our website and an amazing photo installation which can only be found in the jungle. KEVIN LONGSTRETH - Age: 24, International Economics from U.S.A.

Kevin is a graduate from the George Washington University, where he studied International Economics. He began his experience in ecotourism in The Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska where he gained his expertise in whale and bird watching. Kevinīs passion for adventure travel and cuisine from around the world has contributed to his unique career. Kevin came to Sani Lodge from a volunteer teaching position working with children from the city of Quito and continues his passion teaching showing guests the intricate ecosystems of the Sani Rainforest.

AUDREY DEVES– Age: 23, Business & Development from France

tommy newbreyStudent in a business and development school in France in the third year, I study fair trade, marketing, economy o latin America. I went to Ecuador in Sani lodge to know a little more about eco tourism.
