Trails and Forests

In the Amazon region, two distinct types of forest are recognized: flooded and Terra Firme. These forests are extensively distributed in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador. The flooded forests include those that remain inundated throughout the year, as well as those that are subject to seasonal flooding, depending on the amount of rain accumulated by lagoons, rivers, and streams. Terra firma forests are not prone to flooding. In our country, they are predominantly located in proximity to the Andes, in regions such as the Napo and Yasuní areas, where Sani Lodge is situated.

20 km of trails are available.

Sani Lodge boasts a 20-kilometre (12.5-mile) trail system, a unique feature in the region thanks to its strategic location in the Yasuní Biosphere Reserve. The lodge is the number one enterprise in offering clients authentic rainforest experiences, with the 6-kilometre (4-mile) trail network providing the perfect setting for full-day adventures.

10,000 hectares for exploration.
In the northern part of the Napo River, the Sani Isla Community has dedicated 10,000 hectares of forest for sustainable use by Sani Lodge through ecotourism. In the southern territory of Yasuní Park, a small portion of the territory is used for tourism due to the presence of wetlands and slopes that vary from 20 to 45%.

EAGLE TRAIL

Sani has established a network of four trails around the lodge. The Eagle Trail is particularly popular with our senior guests due to its proximity to the lodge and the presence of a diverse range of flora, including palm trees, which are utilized for construction purposes, as well as medicinal plants and easily observable fauna such as owls, tamarin & woolly monkeys.

Another popular choice is the Linderación tour, which takes in the feeding grounds of blue and yellow macaws in the palm trees. Here, visitors can enjoy a variety of attractions, including giant nests of leaf-cutter and lemon ants, as well as century-old trees, and squirrel monkeys.

Two additional trails allow visitors to explore the jungle at a deeper level, catering to those who enjoy hiking.

The Daniel Trail is an excellent location for birdwatchers, offering the opportunity to observe diverse flocks of ant birds, wood creepers, and woodpeckers. For guests interested in natural history, this location is home to various species of monkey, including capuchin and howler monkeys, as well as sloths. The area also features red-barked and red-rooted trees, known as Moral, which provide a striking contrast to the lush green of the Amazon forest.

For those who appreciate long walks, there are 6 km of terra firm forest to enjoy, with trees reaching an average height of 35 meters. Some of these trees grow to an impressive 50 meters, enabling them to capture 100% of solar energy.
