In Latin, the term signifies well-being, both in terms of physical health and emotional health. Our guests conduct online searches for the lodge using various names such as Sami, Sunny, and Sany, reflecting their familiarity with the term in their daily, historical, or spiritual contexts.
Legendary cultures
In the Navajo culture of the United States, the name is bestowed upon wise men or elder leaders. In the Hausa language, the name refers to brightness or radiance in the culture of West Africa. In Sanskrit, the name can be derived from “Shani,” which is related to Saturn, a planet associated with light, antiquity, and wisdom.
This is Sani in Kichwa
In the Kichwa language, it refers to colours such as purple-violet or plants that produce a dye of that colouration. The women of the Sani Warmi association, otherwise known as the women in violet, wear outfits of that shade to extend a warm welcome to guests of our Amazon lodge. The Sani Lodge logo, the Roseate spoonbill, also refers to a variation of the violet tone of its plumage.
Sami Lodge
In the Quechua and Aymara languages, the term ‘sami’ is associated with the concept of vital energy. In Arabic, it can be interpreted as something sublime, elevated, or indicative of a person who is attentive. In the Scandinavian context, it refers to the indigenous population of Lapland, while in Russia, it signifies a connection to nature and the sun.
Sunny Lodge
In accordance with the English translation as ‘sunny’ or ‘full of brightness’, the Mayan culture associates the Sun with the cycle of the stars that form part of their calendar. For the Incas, the Sun was seen as the provider of light, heat, and life, and was key to successful harvests. It was represented by a golden disc with a human face.
The Sany Lodge
The term “Sanyu” is derived from the African concept of “joy,” while “Sanny,” a derivative of “Sandra,” signifies “defender of humanity.”

The term ‘Sani’ is open to interpretation and can be interpreted in several ways. Depending on the cultural context, it can be seen to reflect warmth, harmony, kindness, antiquity, light, and knowledge. Sani Lodge incorporates all these characteristics into the experience it provides for guests.
